Sharri Eastridge, is the talented and creative artist behind her aptly named business, Sassy Crochet. You may be surprised to learn that it is a newly discovered artistry. She says,
“I first learned to crochet when my daughter-in-law was in labor with her first child six years ago. I had her show me a basic chain and single crochet stitch to help keep her distracted. After that, I was hooked. I started searching for ne stitches to learn and taught myself to read patterns. I do still use patterns from time to time, but now I can create my own designs.”
Sharri moved to San Marcos 15 years ago. She notes,
“I love this town and I’m pleased that the arts are so well-supported.”
When asked where she gets her ideas, she explains,
“A lot of my inspiration comes from the many crochet groups I belong to. And since I make many children’s items, I get opinions from my grandchildren. I’ve also started making clothing, which gives me a chance to expand my creativity and use different fibers.”Sharri has a passion for art. “
Whether we realize it or not, I feel there is art in all of us. Think back to when you were a child or when your child was young - the finger paintings and pictures displayed on there frigerator or stored in a box for keepsake. This is our first attempts at self-expression or what we perceive things to be. It’s our most real and honest art. Somehow people tend to forget these creations. That is why I feel fortunate to live in a place that supports and encourages art. Art can bring people together no matter their background.
