Featured Musicians: San Marcos High School

Art Squared starts the 2018 season with a warm welcome from two performing groups from San Marcos High School; the school’s mariachi band, Mariachi Nuevo Cascabel, and the San Marcos High School Jazz Ensemble. Hear the many talented student musicians from our community who make up these bands, and kick of the new season of Art Squared Art Market in musical style. Mariachi Nuevo Cascabel, led by its director, Juan Cavazos, is currently in its second year in existence. The group has demonstrated their talent by having already advanced to state level competition twice. This mariachi band is the beginning of what will be a larger mariachi program in San Marcos CISD; it will help create a more culturally diverse and significant musical education in the district. Be on the lookout for the introduction of mariachi to the middle school course offerings very soon!, The San Marcos High School Jazz Ensemble is made up of students who take class at the high school focusing on learning the many styles of music associated with jazz, as well as understanding how to improvise in those various styles in the setting of a big band. The Ensemble is led by Nathan Rolfe, an alumnus of San Marcos High School and Texas State University.
