The featured organization this month is the San Marcos Cinema Club. Aiming to cultivate a community unified by a shared desire to explore collective knowledge and insights via the art of motion pictures, the San Marcos Cinema Club is a film society that cares about both film and society. Founded only a few years ago, the Cinema Club has become a very successful grassroots organization; they were the recipients of a 2016 SMart Award from the San Marcos Arts Commission, presented to individuals and groups in our community who have made significant contributions to the creation, support, or advocacy of all art forms in San Marcos. The San Marcos Cinema Club has hosted dozens of movie screenings and public events, including Music Flicks from the ‘666, the 72-Hour Film Race, and the debut of the upcoming Lost River Film Fest, November 2-5, which will feature signature screenings with an array of juried films, workshops, and interactive events. The San Marcos Cinema Club’s next event occurs on Thursday, August 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the the San Marcos Public Library, when they celebrate Robert Redford’s birthday with a screening of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Art Squared Arts Market is honored to recognize the San Marcos Cinema Club as its featured community organization for the month of August. Be sure to stop by their booth to learn more and offer support. Find out more about this valuable community organization at www.facebook.com/SMCinemaClub.
